Meet the team

Dr Stewart Fenwick


Stewart has a background in legal practice, public administration and international project management. After qualifying as a solicitor in Melbourne, he worked in Canberra with the Departments of Defence, Prime Minister and Cabinet, and the Office of the Status of Women. Stewart then spent several years in Asia managing legal and judicial reform activities.
He has worked on projects with the Asian Development Bank and AusAID, and has also served with the UNHCR. After working for over four years in Jakarta, Stewart commenced work in the Australian court system and he currently works in Sydney with the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.
Stewart is an Associate at the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at the Melbourne Law School and recently completed his PhD studies there, writing on the subject of political liberalism in post-Soeharto Indonesia with a particular focus on the management of deviant Islamic religious thought.
